Only three download settings are worth changing: where files go, whether to ask each time, and whether to throttle. Leave the rest to the default downloader.
Save location
Files go to the system download folder by default. You can set a fixed folder in settings, or tick "ask where to save each file".

Speed limit and concurrency
If a large download slows browsing, set a speed limit in the download panel; you can also cap the number of parallel downloads so bandwidth is not saturated.

Safety and scanning
Executables are scanned after download; risky files are flagged and need a second confirmation. You can check the source URL and add false positives to a trust list.

A download failed — how do I retry?
Click retry in the download panel. If the server supports range requests it resumes; otherwise it restarts.
How long are download records kept?
Download records stay local. When clearing browsing data you can choose to clear them as well; downloaded files are never deleted.
